Attention

Attention and motivation are two different things, but they are related in that they both involve the process of focusing on one thing while ignoring other things.

Attention can be thought of as the ability to focus on one thing at a time, while motivation can be thought of as the desire to focus on one thing at a time.

Salience

Salience is the degree to which an item stands out in a person's attention. It is the quality of being noticeable or prominent.

It is a measure of how likely a person will notice or pay attention to something.

Valence

Valence is the degree to which an item is liked or disliked.  It is a measure of how pleasant or unpleasant an item seems.

The salience and valence of attention are two important factors that affect how people process information.  Salient objects which have a positive valence are sought after creating motivation.  Negative salience is avoided with an unpleasant feeling causing inhibition.

Motivation

Motivation is the driving force that helps us to achieve our goals. It is what keeps us going when we are feeling down and out. Motivation can be a powerful tool for success, but it can also be a dangerous weapon if used incorrectly.

There are many different types of motivation, but they all have one thing in common: they all require some type of reward or incentive to work.

The reward doesn't have to be tangible; it could just be the satisfaction of completing a task or achieving a goal.  Motivations make us feel good about ourselves and our achievements.

 Intrinsic Motivation & Extrinsic Motivation

There are two main types of motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation comes from within, while extrinsic motivation comes from outside sources such as rewards or punishments.

Intrinsic Motivation: Intrinsic motivation is the type of motivation that comes from within a person, such as a sense of accomplishment or personal satisfaction. It can be difficult to measure this type of motivation because it is not always clear what motivates people to do things.

Extrinsic Motivation: Extrinsic motivations come from outside sources such as rewards or punishments. These motivations can be easier to measure because they often involve tangible items like money or grades.
